Our Story

A Family Business
Built to Last.

In 1906, Castle Printing opened its doors in Essex. More than 120 years later, the same family is still here — still printing, still caring, still committed to the businesses that trust us with their name.

Who We
Are.

Castle Printing is a family-run commercial printing company based in Essex, United Kingdom. We were established in 1906 and have been serving local businesses and organisations ever since — across five generations of the same family.

What began as a small print shop has grown steadily into a full commercial printing operation, capable of handling everything from business cards and stationery through to brochures, booklets, large format graphics, and specialist finishing work.

Throughout our history, the business has remained in the family. That continuity is not accidental — it reflects a genuine commitment to the trade and to the clients we serve. When you work with Castle Printing, you speak directly to the people who run it and take responsibility for the quality of your work.

We are proud of our heritage. More than a century in business is not something achieved through luck. It requires consistency, reliability, and a willingness to invest in the business and in the relationships that sustain it. Those values have guided every generation of our family, and they continue to guide us today.

120 Years
in Brief.

Eight decades of change in the printing industry. One family. One set of values.

  1. 1906

    Founded in Essex

Castle Printing was established in Essex by the first generation of the family. From the outset, the business was built on a commitment to quality craftsmanship and honest service to local businesses and organisations.

  2. 1920s–30s

    Growing the Business

Through the inter-war years, Castle Printing grew its reputation across the county. Letterpress printing was the dominant technology of the era, and the business became known for the precision and care it brought to every job.

  3. 1940s

    Wartime Continuity

The Second World War brought considerable challenges to business across Britain. Castle Printing continued to operate, serving the needs of local commerce and administration, and emerged from the war years with its reputation intact.

  4. 1950s–60s

    Second Generation

The second generation joined the business and began to steer it through the post-war expansion of commercial printing. Investment in new equipment and techniques allowed the company to broaden the range of services it could offer.

  5. 1970s–80s

    Offset Lithography

The widespread adoption of offset lithography transformed commercial printing. Castle Printing invested in the new technology, significantly expanding its capacity and the quality of colour reproduction available to clients.

  6. 1990s

    The Desktop Revolution

Desktop publishing changed the way clients prepared artwork, and Castle Printing adapted accordingly. The business invested in pre-press technology and developed the expertise to work with digital files as standard.

  7. 2000s

    Digital Print Arrives

Digital printing technology opened up new possibilities for short-run work and faster turnaround. Castle Printing added digital capability alongside its litho operation, giving clients a broader range of options to suit their budgets and timescales.

  8. Today

    Five Generations, One Family

The fifth generation of the family now works in the business. Castle Printing continues to operate from Essex with the same values it was founded upon — quality, reliability, and straightforward service. Over 120 years on, the name still means something.
